This paper furnishes several closed-form solutions for the buckling eigenvalue problem of the columns with variable flexural rigidity along the axis. The column is either under uniformly distributed axial load or under concentrated compressive load. Sommario. Comment on the paper: “Forced oscillation of certain neutral hyperbolic equations with continuous distributed deviating arguments” [Math. Comput. Modeling 49 (2009) 1211–1220]

In recent years, many results on oscillation criteria of second-order nonlinear neutral delay differential equations with distributed deviating argument have been obtained, but some of these criteria are incorrect due to a mistake in a crucial auxiliary result. We give two counterexamples.     

Unstructured-grid finite-volume discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations based on high-resolution difference schemes

An unstructured-grid discretization of the Navier-Stokes equations based on the finite volume method and high-resolution difference schemes in time and space is described as applied to fluid dynamics problems in two and three dimensions. The control volume is defined as the cell-vertex median dual control volume. The fluxes through the faces of internal and boundary control volumes are written identically, which simplifies their software implementation. The gradient and the pseudo-Laplacian are calculated at the midpoint of a control volume face by using relations adapted to the computations on a strongly stretched grid in the boundary layer.

EXISTENCE OF PERIODIC SOLUTIONS TO A KIND OF HIGHER ORDER FUNCTIONAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION WITH TWO DEVIATING ARGUMENTS

In this paper, by the theory of Fourier series, Bernoulli number theory and continu-ation theorem of coincidence degree theory, we study a kind of higher order functional differential equation with two deviating arguments. Some new results on the existence of periodic solutions are obtained.

In this paper,we consider nonnegative solutions to Cauchy problem for the general nonlinear filtration equations ut-Dj(aij(x,t,u)Diφ(u))+bi(t,u)Diu+C(x,t,u)=0,and obtain the existence,uniqueness and blow-up in finite time of these solutions under some structure conditions.     

Global dynamics behaviors for a nonautonomous Lotka–Volterra almost periodic dispersal system with delays

A nonautonomous Lotka–Volterra dispersal system with continuous delays and discrete delays is considered. By using a comparison theorem and delay differential equation basic theory, we obtain sufficient conditions for the permanence of the population in every patch. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional, we prove that the system is globally asymptotically stable under some appropriate conditions. Using almost periodic functional hull theory, we get sufficient conditions for the existence, uniqueness and globally asymptotical stability for an almost periodic solution. This implies that the population in every patch exhibits stable almost periodic fluctuation. Furthermore, the results show that the permanence and global stability of system, and the existence and uniqueness of a positive almost periodic solution, depend on the delay; then we call it “profitless”.     

On the sign-stability of numerical solutions of one-dimensional parabolic problems

The preservation of the qualitative properties of physical phenomena in numerical models of these phenomena is an important requirement in scientific computations. In this paper, the numerical solutions of a one-dimensional linear parabolic problem are analysed. The problem can be considered as a altitudinal part of a split air pollution transport model or a heat conduction equation with a linear source term. The paper is focussed on the so-called sign-stability property, which reflects the fact that the number of the spatial sign changes of the solution does not grow in time. We give sufficient conditions that guarantee the sign-stability both for the finite difference and the finite element methods.
